Colin Jeffrey just turned 68 years of age. I have only been in politics for about 4 years. But of late I have joined the Stockton & Hartlepool Green Party.

Colin Jeffrey voted Labour, all his working life, at 68 and a few years on, he voted for the Green Party councilor for the first time, thus not voting Labour. Colin too was a candidate for the local Green Party. Coming 4th.

Billingham is not quite ready for the Green Party, says Colin Jeffrey.

Is it possible that Stockton is not quite ready yet? However, during the results, the Stockton South local green party did pick up a vast amount of votes much more than in the north of Stockton.

Green Politics is the way to go

It's been a brilliant campaign. More Greens standing for election than ever before. We did distribute loads of leaflets, visited more homes, and talked to more voters.

It would be incredible to see more news coverage of Green policies, campaigns, and the remarkable leaders who champion them!

The Green Party says:

Our country is facing crises around the cost of living, in our public services, and in our climate and environment.

At the Green Party, we have plans to improve everything that matters for families and communities.

Greens across the country do things differently, always working to offer fair, green solutions that make life better for all.

When we say "fairer and greener", we mean it.

Fairer, Greener Homes

  • The best way to save money on energy bills and reduce your carbon footprint is by having a well-insulated home that needs little or no heating.

  • We would invest £250bn over 10 years in council-led schemes to insulate 10 million homes.

  • We would fund these council-led schemes through an emergency package of taxes on the wealthiest 1% and the biggest polluters.

Fairer, Greener Housing

  • Knowing that you have a secure home is vital for both physical and mental health.

  • Record rent rises and the threat of eviction are putting households in a precarious position during the cost of living crisis.

  • We are calling for an immediate freeze on rent rises and a ban on no-fault evictions to protect households.

Fairer, Greener Schools

  • The high cost of living is greatly affecting children, especially those from low-income families. Child food insecurity has doubled in the past year.

  • We feel that the government should offer free school meals to all primary and secondary school kids, so that every child can have a fair opportunity in life and families can better cope during tough economic times.

Fairer, Greener Childcare

  • Many parents are facing an impossible situation - they can't afford not to work, but childcare costs are so high that they can't afford to go to work

  • We want to see 35 hours of free childcare for all from the age of nine months so that every child gets the care they need, and every parent can go to work if they want to.

Fairer, Greener Transport

  • The Green Party's "One Pound Fare To Take You There" plan would introduce a £1 single fare on all local bus routes in the country and guarantee free travel for everyone under 22.

  • The plan provides funding to make bus services better in the long term. It also gives councils the power to choose routes and schedules for buses to run where they are necessary, not just where they are profitable.

  • We would pay for the plan from a carbon tax and by cancelling £27 billion pounds worth of national road building schemes.

Fairer, Greener Water

  • Our waterways are crucial for animals and a valuable source of public parks, but the government plans to keep dumping sewage into them for many years.

  • We need water companies to be responsible for ending sewage discharges and cleaning up our rivers and seas to protect them.

  • We believe that the best way to run essential services like water is by prioritizing people over profit. For this reason, we would return control of water to the public sector to ensure its sustainability.
